Le Parti socialiste européen (PSE) rassemble les partis socialistes, sociaux-démocrates et travaillistes de l'Union européenne (UE). Ses objectifs sont:
- renforcer le mouvement socialiste et social-démocrate dans l'Union et à travers l'Europe;
- développer des relations étroites de travail avec les partis nationaux, les groupes parlementaires nationaux, le Groupe du PSE au Parlement européen, la Commission permanente du PSE Femmes, ECOSY, et toutes les autres organisations socialistes et sociales-démocrates;
- définir les politiques communes de l'Union européenne;
- adopter un manifeste commun pour les élections au Parlement européen
